Creating The Wooden Blocks For Printing
What Is Block Printing
From Artisans and Crafters in Jaipur, Rajasthan
In Jaipur, Rajasthan—the land of kings—block printing is a tradition passed down through generations, carved into wood, stamped onto cloth, and carried forward by the hands of skilled artisans.
The process begins with master carvers—crafters chiseling intricate patterns into teakwood blocks, each design telling a story rooted in nature, folklore, and geometry. In nearby workshops, artisans dip these blocks into natural dyes and press them onto soft cotton, layer by layer. The work is meticulous, and no two prints are exactly the same.
Women cut and stitch the printed fabric into shirts—each piece sewn with skill, and attention to detail. This is slow fashion, born of legacy, not trend. These fabrics were once made for royalty—textiles worn in palaces and on procession routes. Today, we bring them directly from Jaipur to the USA. No middlemen. No mass production. Just shirts made by hand for modern wardrobes, printed with the same care once reserved for kings.
Each shirt is a tribute to the artistry of Rajasthan, a connection between the people who preserve the craft and those who choose to wear something real.
This is what I wear. This is what I share.
